U.S. Navy Takes Delivery Of 10 Contender® By Pierce Pumpers

OCTOBER 21, 2005, Appleton, Wis. – Pierce Manufacturing Inc. has delivered 10 of its Contender® by Pierce brand pumpers to the U.S. Navy for fire protection at naval facilities around the globe. Five of the trucks will be shipped to locations in the U.S., and the remaining five will be shipped overseas.

The first vehicle was fully-outfitted by Pierce dealer Ten-8 Fire Equipment, Bradenton, Fla., and immediately sent to the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in New Orleans to help with disaster relief efforts in the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

“Pierce is proud to provide Contender apparatus to the U.S. Navy,” said Jim Parker, vice president government sales at Pierce. “This order shows a continued vote of confidence in Pierce vehicles and world-class support network. We're especially proud that our organization was able to fully-outfit one of the pumpers in 36 hours for rapid deployment to New Orleans for hurricane relief efforts.”

The remaining vehicles are being shipped to the following locations: Navy Region Hawaii, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Navy Air Station Whidbey Island, Oak Harbor, Wash.; Chinhae, Korea; Naval Magazine Indian Island, Port Hadlock, Wash.; Naval Air Weapons Station, China Lake, Calif.; Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, Calif.; U.S. Naval Forces Marianas Support Activity, Guam, Marianas Islands; U.S. Naval Air Station, Sigonella, Italy; and U.S. Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The vehicles are built on International 4400 series chassis and each features a 330 hp engine, 16" front bumper extension, Husky® foam system, hydraulic ladder rack, 6 kW generator, 110v quartz lighting,

270 amp alternator, 750 gallon water tank and roll-up doors.
