Bioterrorism. Natural Disasters. When there is a threat to community water systems, a capability must exist to immediately respond and produce clean, potable water for the people and communities affected.
A new vehicle offering by Pierce Manufacturing provides the end-user – civilian or military – the capability to purify almost any contaminated water source without the use of chemicals. This unit was created because of recent catastrophic events, including Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and their aftermath. However, it can be used to purify drinking water in any event, such as a biological attack, or simply to provide temporary relief to a community water system. Whether navigating a steep incline or operating through floodwaters, this vehicle is proven for reliable operation in extreme conditions requiring quick response.
Water purification processes include: ozone generation, media filtration, ultraviolet disinfection, ultra filtration and reverse osmosis filtration.
The purification unit was designed so that it could be mounted to a heavy duty chassis, either custom or commercial. The demo unit is mounted on an Oshkosh® 6x6 Highland® chassis, but the water purification system will be mounted to an IHC 6x6 7400 chassis (or equivalent) in the future. Together, the heavy duty chassis and the highly capable water purification unit provide for an all-encompassing water filtration system that can forge through to the disaster area. This unit would be applicable to communities susceptible to natural or man-made disasters, but can be used simply as a mobile drinking water purification system.
